Karla is currently producing two feature documentaries for Still Films and has recently been associate producer on releases such as The Red Tree (Paul Rowley, 2018 – currently screening on The Criterion Collection) and New York Our Time (Vivienne Dick, 2020 – winner of the Film Critics Circle ‘Best Doc’ Award at the 2020 Dublin International Film Festival).

Karla works across the Still Films slate as a Producer, Filmmaker and Development/Content Producer, as well as offering production and creative services on various projects in a freelance capacity. She manages budgets, finances and production logistics, and is also experienced in story editing support and approaching projects with a holistic perspective and positive mindset.

Karla has just produced a feature drama called Never Stop the Action – a tale of two friends riding the New York subway, who take us on an entertaining trip inspired by Czech and French New Wave cinema (writer/director Paul Rowley). She is also currently producing a feature documentary (Gays Against Guns), a project supported by Screen Ireland. And is developing a limited TV drama series based on real events, written by Paul Rowley, about the murder of a young gay man in ‘80s Ireland. With writer Nicky Gogan Karla is the development producer of a feature drama about a female IRA member which is in its early stages. Karla has also recently been associate producer on releases such as The Red Tree (Paul Rowley, 2018 – currently screening on The Criterion Collection) and New York Our Time (Vivienne Dick, 2020 – winner of the Film Critics Circle ‘Best Doc’ Award at the 2020 Dublin International Film Festival). Karla has worked on various other shorts and features including Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect (Mark Noonan, 2017), Frida Think (Maya Derrington, 2018) and was the outreach producer for Lost in France (Niall McCann, 2017).

Karla’s background is in media, with a degree in journalism and having worked in publishing management for many years. In 2014 she decided to follow her dream and turn her hand to film and TV. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a Masters in Film Studies (graduating with ‘Distinction’ and a thesis on feminist film). Karla is passionate about the industry and the place where art, politics and film meet. Karla recently served as a Board member for Women in Film&TV Ireland and was director of the Dublin Feminist Film Festival. She has managed offices at successful film & TV production companies such as Deadpan Pictures, and was also on the curatorial panel for Venice Biennale alumna Jesse Jones’ artistic/filmic project No More Fun and Games (The Hugh Lane Gallery). Karla was Community Engagement Manager for the Granby Park project in 2013, transforming a derelict plot into a public art space, and has been involved in numerous other grass roots and artistic projects. Karla regularly appears on panels and has been a guest speaker at events such as Console-ing Passions (A/V, Media and Feminism Conference, 2015, Dublin) and Wanda (Feminism and the Moving Image, Belfast 2018).
