Nicky was one of the first active advocates of digital film-making in Ireland. She set up the Darklight Film Festival in 1999, which has gone from strength to strength over the past six years. The festival has a broad range of commitments to Irish and international film makers working in digital media; providing a screening platform for new work, facilitating seminars, providing network opportunities for film makers and running an international touring programme.

Creatively, Nicky’s work as a curator has been seen at Darklight, and in her work as curator of exhibitions at The Digital Hub. Nicky has also collaborated on many web and film projects over the last few years with BAFTA nominees Desperate Optimists. Nicky has most recently launched Ireland's first 3G mobile channel for short films and animation, Wildlight. She produced Paul Rowley’s first feature film As Láthair. She is currently working with Paul on their first collaborative feature project as co-directors, a feature documentary titled Uisce Marbh which examines the newly developing cultural diversity of a rapidly changing Ireland.

Nicola is also co-director of Sink Digital Media, a Dublin based new media production company. Since its inception in 1997, Sink has remained committed to fostering and developing innovation in the digital field.

Nicky is also a founding member of DATA, the Dublin Art and Technology Association, a new development group to encourage creative dialogue between film, art, and technology. She has also recently been appointed as final exhibition tutor on the MA in Multimedia in Trinity College Dublin.

Awards include Finalist for 'Multi Media Person of the Year', Digital Media Awards 2003, 2004 and winner of 'Innovation Award' Irish Internet Association Net Visionary Awards 2003.
