Many Dubliners recognise the focal point that Christchurch Cathedral becomes on New Year's Eve, when thousands of midnight revellers flock to hear the 12 strokes of midnight struck on the two ton Great Tenor Bell, followed by the other bells in the tower joining in to welcome in the new year.

What we hear as a soundtrack to Dublin daily life, is asomewhat esoteric practice performed by a dedicated group of highly skilled individuals. Using multiple camera angles, graphics and visual effects, and dramatic sound design, the film will illustrate the physical endurance and concentration of the ringers, the musical intricacy of the patterns, and the mathematical sequences that form the basis of this complicated art.

Our film will not only illustrate the complex and visually engaging art of bell ringing, but also allow the viewer to get an insider's view on a part of Dublin that is heard every day, but seldom seen.

A collaboration with the change ringers of Christchurch Catherdral and Dr. Eimear Byrne, Department of Mathematics, UCD.
